Walking Wounded

In 2014, Eloise Sweetman, as Shimmer, curated a presentation of three works by Hong Kong-based artist Lee Kit at SYSTEMA in Marseille, France.  Kit’s paintings and installations layered projector light, text, and found materials—including containers, plastic bags, T-shirts, and printouts—to create atmospheric experiences that shifted between foreground and background. His work deeply influenced Shimmer’s curatorial practice through its precision with shadows, spontaneity, reflexivity, and openness to response.

SYSTEMA was a gathering of affinities that created a social space for independent spaces, artist- and curator-run initiatives, and nonprofit collaborative projects, including Bologna.cc (Amsterdam), Buzzer Reeves (Berlin), Closing Soon (Athens), digestivo (itinerant), E.A. Shared Space (Tbilisi), Laurenz (Vienna), OCT0 (Marseille), Program 23 (Paris), Provence (Zurich), Salon für Kunstbuch (Vienna), Shmorevaz (Paris), and Torbay (London).
